Reno, Nevada – Snow-covered bridges and overpasses are already turning slick across the Reno-Carson City corridor, with icy patches expected to linger through 10 p.m. Thursday and into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. for the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area, including Sparks, Verdi, Gardnerville and Virginia City. Snow totals range from 1 to 4 inches below 5,000 feet, with 3 to 6 inches in foothill communities above 5,000 feet. Heavier bands earlier today dropped locally higher amounts near 8 inches from Washoe Valley to Virginia City. Wind gusts up to 25 mph are producing pockets of blowing snow and brief visibility reductions.

Interstate 580, U.S. 395 and mountain routes connecting Carson City and Minden remain vulnerable to slick stretches, especially on elevated ramps and shaded areas where ice can persist even after snowfall tapers. The evening commute could see renewed slowdowns as temperatures fall and moisture refreezes.

Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and check Nevada 511 before heading out. While steady snow should wind down by late evening, icy spots may continue overnight, and additional advisories are possible if conditions worsen.
