Pioche, Nevada – Mountain roads in Lincoln County could turn slick by midafternoon Monday as snow begins falling above 5,000 feet, with colder air lowering snow levels overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday for elevations above 5,000 feet. Snow accumulations up to 4 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph. Snow levels will begin near 7,000 feet Monday afternoon before dropping below 5,000 feet by Tuesday morning.

Communities including Pioche, Panaca, Caliente, Alamo and Rachel may see snow on higher terrain and mountain passes. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first, creating hazardous driving conditions late Monday night into early Tuesday.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and prepare for sudden slick spots, especially on rural highways and elevated roadways. Officials also note that additional snowfall may develop Tuesday night into Wednesday, which could extend travel impacts. The advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Tuesday.
