LAS VEGAS — Residents are encouraged to participate in Clark County’s annual Christmas tree recycling program.
Clark County, in partnership with the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee, runs a recycling program every year from Dec. 26 to Jan. 15 at participating drop sites located across the valley. The program uses the mulch from the Christmas trees to conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy in landscaping projects. Since 2001, the initiative has saved around 320,000 trees from local landfills. According to the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee, its ten-year average is 16,718 trees per year.
There are over 30 drop sites located across the Valley at places like Springs Preserve, multiple Lowe’s, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, and Clark County’s Sunset and Mountain Crest parks. The recycling is free of charge, but residents have to bring in their trash. For those unable to transport the tree, there are moving companies that will do it for a fee.
Only live trees are accepted, and all decorations must be removed before drop-off.
Clark County advises residents not to keep their trees up for more than two weeks and to recycle them once the needles begin to fall.
