LAS VEGAS — December in Las Vegas is known to be busy, and popular resorts are preparing by increasing security and guest-service staffing.
With so many major Christmas attractions like the Glittering Lights drive-thru displays and the Enchant Christmas Light Maze, Las Vegas is going to get busy in December. In previous years, major brands like MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Las Vegas had upped security patrols, introduced enhanced bag-check protocols, and had higher surveillance staffing.
This year, regulatory changes have made it easier for resorts to hire armed security guards, as applicants can begin working as soon as they can prove they applied for a concealed-carry permit. Many resorts also station security guards outside elevators at night for added protection.
Since the 2017 shooting, resorts like MGM and Wynn have beefed up training, weaponry, and screening that don’t inconvenience guests. MGM Resorts also has an elite team of highly trained professionals to provide 24/7/365 security for guests.
The city is considering reviving the Resort Corridor Court, a specialized judicial body created to address minor crimes in key tourist areas. Officials say it could be a boon during busy holiday seasons.
