LAS VEGAS – The Nevada Highway Patrol prepares for increased traffic on the roads over Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel periods, so much so that AA had predicted that a record 88.1 million people would travel, and 90% will be driving. In anticipation of the increase in road users, the Nevada Highway Patrol has a couple of different initiatives to keep road users safe this holiday.

In August, the Nevada Highway Patrol joined forces with law enforcement agencies statewide to participate in the Joining Forces safety campaign, which runs until September 2026. Aimed at increasing safety on the road, the program will emphasize and enforce speeding laws and make sure that seat belts are used. To reduce impaired driving during the festive season, sobriety checkpoints will also be in place.

Each year, the Nevada Highway Patrol increases its presence and patrols on major travel corridors like the I-15 between Las Vegas and California. As a zero-tolerance zone, the stretch sees heightened enforcement to deter speeding and distracted driving.
