Reno, Nevada – Relentless summer heat is setting up across northern Nevada this week, and Reno residents should brace for a steady climb into the 90s starting Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, sunny skies will push Reno’s high to 88°F on Thursday, June 26, with light west winds in the afternoon. Temperatures will continue to climb daily, peaking near 95°F by Sunday. While winds remain calm, gusts up to 20 mph could hit by Friday evening, especially along the I-580 and I-80 corridors.

Outdoor workers, hikers, and those commuting through Washoe County should hydrate often, take shade breaks, and avoid direct sun between 2 and 5 p.m. The UV index is expected to remain in the “Very High” category into the weekend. Pets and children should never be left in parked vehicles.

Saturday will bring the first 93°F high of the summer season, with no cloud cover or precipitation in sight. The NWS encourages residents to monitor heat-sensitive individuals and conserve electricity as cooling demand surges.

Winds remain light but could shift midday, affecting air quality in areas prone to dust and smoke accumulation. No active fire warnings are posted, but dry conditions raise concern as the weekend progresses.
