According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday, with lower elevations across Washoe, Lyon, and Mineral counties seeing highs of 98-106°F. Monday, July 14 will be the most intense, especially for commuters and residents in Reno, Sparks, and along I-580, where roads and infrastructure can heat up rapidly and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory covers Pyramid Lake, Silver Springs, Fallon, Fernley, and Gardnerville as well.
Officials warn that anyone working or traveling outdoors should limit activity between noon and 6 p.m. Stay hydrated, avoid direct sun, and use air conditioning whenever possible. Check on vulnerable neighbors and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Emergency managers urge residents to be alert for symptoms of heat exhaustion and remind everyone to plan errands and travel for early morning or evening hours when temperatures are lower.
Smoke from regional wildfires may impact air quality, adding another layer of risk for those with respiratory conditions. Keep windows closed and use air purifiers if available.
