Reno, Nevada – Sweltering summer heat will grip northern Nevada by Friday as temperatures soar toward 96°F in Reno, pushing outdoor safety concerns into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, highs will steadily climb from Friday through Sunday, with Friday peaking at 91°F and Sunday threatening to break into the upper 90s. Winds remain light, but afternoon sun will drive up UV exposure. Reno-area roadways like I-580 could see heat-induced pavement stress, especially in unshaded zones.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity between 1 and 5 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors. Park visitors and construction crews should brace for intense sun and possible heat exhaustion. The extended dry pattern could also heighten wildfire risk in the surrounding foothills.

Across Washoe County, Friday through Monday will remain sunny and hot with clear skies each night. By Monday, the daytime high still hovers around 94°F, with lows only briefly cooling to the lower 60s.

This stretch of dry, intense summer heat mirrors early-July conditions seen during Nevada’s 2021 heat dome, raising concern for overworked A/C systems and local power grids.

More updates are expected if temperatures rise further or if air quality drops due to dry conditions.
