Las Vegas, Nevada – Strong winds and single-digit humidity levels are fueling dangerous wildfire conditions across Nye County, as a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. Residents from Beatty to Pahrump face elevated risks for fast-spreading fires, with outdoor burning strongly discouraged through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, south winds from 15 to 25 mph—with gusts topping 35 mph—will combine with bone-dry air to create a tinderbox atmosphere in central and southern Nye County. The warning covers Fire Weather Zone 462, including major roadways like US-95 and communities reliant on local volunteer fire services.

Any spark in this environment could quickly escalate out of control, impacting ranches, power lines, and neighborhoods across the desert. Fire crews are on high alert, and residents are urged to avoid using open flames, ensure all trailer chains are secure to prevent sparks, and keep emergency kits and N95 masks ready.

Critical fire weather like this is typical for southern Nevada in July, but today’s combination of strong winds and humidity as low as 8 percent is especially hazardous. Residents are reminded that fire restrictions remain in place, and any burning activity could have severe consequences.

This Red Flag Warning remains active until 10 p.m. Monday. Additional advisories may follow if conditions persist into Tuesday.
