LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas mother has filed a federal lawsuit against the Clark County School District (CCSD), alleging that her son endured nearly two years of racial abuse at O.K. Adcock Elementary School.
Jessica Orta, represented by the law firm Clark Hill PLC, filed the complaint on Sept. 22. She claims her son was repeatedly subjected to racial slurs, including being called the N-word, and that reporting the incidents to teachers only made the abuse worse.
Earlier in January this year, Orta appeared before the Clark County School District Board of Trustees and outlined her problems.
“I’m here to address the racial harassment and bullying my son has endured,” Orta said. “Despite repeated reports to the teacher, the school failed to take meaningful action. This inaction allowed the harassment to escalate.”
According to the lawsuit, the bullying began back in 2023 by a group of students, and for two years, the Clark County School District was ineffective in eliminating the racially motivated attacks or creating a plan to prevent future incidents.
Orta revealed that the abuse escalated to a point where one student barred her son from entering the school.
Eight CCSD staff members are named as defendants, including Adcock Elementary School Principal Wendy DeMille and CCSD District E Trustee Lorena Biassotti. Orta also claims Assistant Principal Matt Landahl dismissed or pushed back against her allegations.
Her lawsuit highlights the need for better CCSD accountability and racial equity.
