Las Vegas, Nev. – Dangerous heat is gripping southern Nevada and surrounding regions with an extreme heat warning in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday, as daytime highs soar well above 110 degrees in Las Vegas and push toward 120 in Furnace Creek.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, major-to-extreme heat risk will continue across Clark County, southern Nye County, and neighboring Mohave County, Arizona. Overnight lows in Las Vegas will only fall into the upper 80s, offering little relief. Owens Valley will also see highs near 105 with moderate heat risk.

Communities most affected include Las Vegas, Henderson, Laughlin, Pahrump, Bullhead City, and Kingman. Public health officials warn that heat-related illnesses will increase sharply if residents do not take precautions. Drivers are urged not to leave children or pets in cars, where interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also urges outdoor workers to schedule shaded breaks and remain alert for signs of heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency.
