Reno, Nev. – Reno residents should brace for a burst of extreme summer heat Monday, with highs soaring to 95°F before the region sees a slight chance of thunderstorms by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, calm winds and mostly sunny skies will dominate Monday before moisture builds and sparks isolated storms late Tuesday and again Wednesday. A 20% chance of thunderstorms is expected both afternoons, mainly after 11 a.m., with breezy conditions and gusts up to 25 mph possible.

Tuesday and Wednesday highs will remain in the low 90s across Washoe County, while overnight lows dip into the lower 60s. The risk of lightning and dry gusty winds could pose fire danger in surrounding brush-heavy areas, especially south toward Carson City and Dayton.

While no major alerts have been issued, residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and secure any loose outdoor items ahead of Tuesday’s potential winds. Thunderstorm activity may impact late-day travel on I-580 and US-395.

Dry and sunny weather is expected to return by Thursday and hold steady through Independence Day weekend.
