LAS VEGAS, Nev. – August closed as one of the hotter and drier months on record for Las Vegas, with temperatures averaging 93.5 degrees—1.8 degrees above normal—and Harry Reid Airport recording only a trace of rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, while scattered showers hit some neighborhoods in the valley, official rain gauges at the airport never picked up measurable totals. That left the city 0.32 inches below its typical August rainfall, adding to an already parched summer.

The hottest day of the month came on August 12, when the mercury hit 112 degrees, pushing road and sidewalk temperatures to dangerous levels. The coolest reading occurred late in the month on August 29, when lows dipped to 74 degrees, offering only brief relief.

The dry streak has left southern Nevada residents urged to conserve water and prepare for lingering wildfire risk as September begins. Energy demand also spiked, with NV Energy reporting higher cooling usage during the prolonged heat.

More updates are expected as September storm chances develop later in the month, but for now, officials warn residents that hotter-than-normal conditions could persist.
