Reno, Nevada – Dangerously hot temperatures will grip western Nevada and far northeastern California starting Sunday morning, with highs reaching up to 105°F and little overnight relief through Wednesday at 11 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Heat Advisory is in effect for much of northern Washoe County, the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area, Pyramid Lake, Mineral and Lyon counties, as well as California’s Surprise Valley. The combination of searing daytime heat and warm overnight lows—some in the 70s—will elevate the risk of heat-related illness, especially during prolonged outdoor activity.

Cities including Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Gardnerville, and Cedarville will be under a Major to Extreme HeatRisk, meaning sensitive groups and those without access to cooling may be especially vulnerable.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Cooling centers may open in some communities if the heat persists.

This prolonged heat wave is expected to peak Monday and Tuesday. More advisories could be issued if the high temperatures continue beyond Wednesday.
