Carson City, Nev. – A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck just northeast of Yerington early Wednesday, rattling parts of western Nevada but causing no immediate damage.

According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, the quake hit at 3:24 a.m. local time, centered about 20 kilometers north-northeast of Yerington at a depth of 10.2 kilometers. The light tremor was felt in communities across Lyon and Mineral counties, with reports extending into Carson City and Fallon.

No injuries or infrastructure damage have been reported, but the quake briefly shook homes and woke residents in the Walker River area. Emergency management officials are monitoring for aftershocks, though none have followed as of 6 a.m.

Residents in the region are encouraged to check for structural damage, secure items that may fall in future quakes, and review their emergency preparedness kits. Light quakes like this are not uncommon in Nevada, the third most seismically active U.S. state.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory continues to monitor seismic activity. No further alerts have been issued, but residents can report shaking experiences to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” portal.
