Alamo, Nevada – A trio of earthquakes shook Lincoln County north of Las Vegas, marking a noticeable burst of seismic activity in southern Nevada.

According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, the strongest quake measured magnitude 3.7 and struck about 30 kilometers south-southwest of Alamo at a shallow depth of roughly 2 kilometers. A magnitude 3.4 earthquake followed in nearly the same area at a depth of 12 kilometers. A third quake, measuring magnitude 3.0, also hit close by at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

All three events were centered in a sparsely populated stretch of desert north of the Las Vegas Valley. Light shaking may have been felt in nearby communities, but there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Southern Nevada sits within the seismically active Basin and Range Province, where small to moderate earthquakes occur regularly as the Earth’s crust slowly stretches. Seismologists are monitoring the area for potential aftershocks as the sequence continues to unfold.
