LAS VEGAS — The start of the new year is one of the busiest periods for the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles as new residents, teens, and returning drivers compete for appointments.
Residents are urged to plan ahead if they plan on making use of the Nevada DMV’s services, as January often brings added crowds. The department’s most popular services during this period after the holidays are Real IDs for new residents and driver’s license renewals. Because demand for Real ID remains high, booking an appointment in advance is strongly encouraged.
For in-person visits, the DMV recommends completing the application before your appointment to save time. Forms are available on the Nevada DMV, and applicants can start the process by creating a DriveNV account and uploading their documents.
Currently, the only Nevada DMV offices accepting walk-ins are located at Aliante Parkway, Suite 10, and 937 S. Rainbow Blvd., Suite 1-B. Services are limited to vehicle registration and handicapped placards. Operating hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
To avoid long queues, the DMV has several online services:
- Vehicle registration renewals
- Vehicle registration cancellation
- ID/Driver license renewals
- Vehicle insurance updates
- Application for duplicate license, permit ID, or DAC
- Address changes
- Temporary Movement Permit
- Register Vehicle Purchased from a Nevada Dealer
For unavoidable in-person visits, it’s recommended to avoid historically busy days like Mondays and Fridays.
