Nevada County, CA – A late-night rollover crash involving a semi-truck hauling large boulders shut down Highway 20 between Nevada City and Interstate 80 for nearly five hours overnight, according to the California Highway Patrol – Grass Valley office.

The incident occurred when the truck overturned on Highway 20, spilling debris and blocking all lanes. Crews from multiple local agencies worked through the night to upright the vehicle, clear debris, and safely reopen the roadway before sunrise.

According to CHP, the crash resulted in a full closure of the stretch connecting Nevada City and I-80 as emergency and tow crews labored to remove the heavy load and restore traffic flow. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the truck driver was not hurt.

CHP officials thanked local partner agencies for their quick response and dedication in reopening the highway before dawn. “Our officers and partners work around the clock to keep California’s roadways clear and safe — no matter the hour,” the agency said in a statement.

Drivers along the Highway 20 corridor experienced delays throughout the night as crews managed the recovery operation. CHP reminds motorists to drive cautiously, especially when hauling heavy loads or navigating mountain routes after dark.
