Nevada – Snow clouds are building over the Sierra crest this morning, and the cold air biting across Reno hints at what’s coming next. Streets remain mostly quiet now, but conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly after sunrise Thursday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday for the greater Reno–Carson City–Minden area. Heavy snow is expected, with valley accumulations up to 3 inches. Foothill areas above 5,000 feet could see up to 6 inches. Winds may gust as high as 30 mph in wind-prone stretches along US-395 and I-580.
Travel could become very difficult at times. Snow may fall heavily during the day Thursday, reducing visibility and coating roadways fast. Plan for a slow morning and evening commute. Allow extra space between vehicles and check road conditions before heading out.
Today stays cold with highs near 34 and only a chance of light snow before late morning. Little accumulation is expected before the main system arrives. Tonight turns mostly cloudy with lows around 18.
Thursday is the impact day. Snow develops in the morning and becomes heavy at times by afternoon. Highs reach only the low 30s. Slushy roads may refreeze after sunset, raising flash freezing concerns into Thursday night as lows drop near 11.
Friday brings relief with mostly sunny skies and highs near 36. Saturday turns partly sunny with highs around 41. A slight chance of snow returns Saturday night.
By Sunday, rain and snow showers develop with highs near the upper 40s. Early next week trends milder, with highs near 50 by Monday. The 6- to 10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures, signaling early hints of spring warmth across western Nevada.
