Reno, NV – A pair of lake wind advisories are in effect for much of western Nevada and northern California through Monday, with gusty winds and dangerous wave conditions impacting popular outdoor spots. Residents and visitors around Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, and several other nearby bodies of water should prepare for challenging boating conditions throughout the day on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will strengthen across the area on Monday, reaching 20 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph. These winds, combined with wave heights of 1 to 3 feet, will create hazardous conditions for small watercraft, including kayaks, paddle boards, and boats. The advisory will cover Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. PDT, with similar conditions expected at Rye Patch and Lahontan Reservoirs, and Boca and Prosser Creek Reservoirs.

A second lake wind advisory will also affect additional areas, including Washoe Lake, Honey Lake, Stampede Reservoir, and Frenchman Lake. Southwest winds will hit 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph in the Reno-Carson City-Minden area and surrounding counties.

Impact on Outdoor Activities: Water recreation enthusiasts are urged to check conditions before heading out and consider postponing boating activities until winds subside. Conditions could change quickly, and strong gusts may increase the risk of capsizing.

The lake wind advisories will remain in effect until 11 p.m. PDT Monday, with the potential for further updates if conditions worsen.
