Las Vegas, Nev. – Drivers across southern Nevada could face sudden crosswinds strong enough to push high-profile vehicles off course today, with gusts building through the afternoon and creating hazardous travel into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, southwest winds will increase steadily Tuesday, with gusts reaching 30 to 45 mph in the Las Vegas Valley and up to 50 mph near Barstow along the I-15 corridor. Lighter gusts between 20 and 30 mph are expected near Lake Havasu, while Kingman could see peaks near 45 mph.

Even light rain falling on dry roads may create slick conditions within minutes, especially along I-15, U.S. 95, and stretches of I-40. Blowing dust and debris could reduce visibility in open desert areas, while sudden crosswinds may impact trucking routes and high-clearance vehicles.

Higher terrain in the eastern Sierra and southern Great Basin will see the best chance for scattered showers, though snow levels remain above 8,500 feet, limiting winter impacts.

Drivers should keep both hands on the wheel, avoid sudden lane changes, and delay travel if towing or driving oversized vehicles. Winds will remain elevated into tonight, and additional advisories may be issued if gusts strengthen further.
