Omaha, NE – Residents in Nebraska woke up to snow flurries and freezing temperatures Monday, signaling the start of a chilly week. Light snow this morning is expected to taper off by mid-morning, with highs in the mid-to-upper 20s. Roads, including stretches of I-80, may remain slick, so commuters should allow extra travel time.
According to the National Weather Service, the week will remain cold, with Tuesday offering some sunshine and highs nearing 39 degrees. Winds will pick up Tuesday night, bringing gusts up to 22 mph. Despite clear skies, temperatures will drop to a low of 16 degrees Monday night, ensuring icy conditions linger.
By midweek, sunny skies and highs around 46 degrees are expected, providing some relief from the cold. However, lows will return to the teens Wednesday night, with northwest winds reaching 17 mph. Thursday marks another dip, with highs only in the mid-20s and a calm breeze returning by nightfall.
The National Weather Service also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook early Monday for parts of northeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. While no significant accumulation is expected from today’s snow, drivers are urged to remain cautious, especially during early morning commutes.
Looking ahead, the weekend promises milder weather, with highs in the 40s and sunny skies. However, residents should prepare for icy mornings and fluctuating temperatures throughout the week. Bundle up, and stay tuned for further updates as winter conditions persist.
