Hastings, NE – Nebraska residents should prepare for potentially hazardous winter weather starting Friday afternoon. Forecasters predict freezing rain, light ice accumulation, and slick roads across much of the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says light precipitation will begin Friday afternoon, lasting through the evening and into Saturday morning. A mix of rain, snow, and freezing drizzle could create dangerous driving conditions. Ice accumulation of up to 0.10 inches is possible, particularly east of Highway 281.

Forecasters highlight that small changes in temperatures could significantly impact precipitation types. Winds on Friday are expected to be easterly at 10–15 mph, shifting northwesterly into Saturday.

The NWS urges caution, especially for those traveling Friday night and Saturday morning. Residents should monitor forecasts closely as updated data may affect timing and intensity.

Prepare for icy roads by reducing travel, using extra caution, and allowing additional travel time. Stay informed by checking for weather updates and advisories.

Stay safe as Nebraska enters this wintry weather pattern. Adjust plans accordingly and stay vigilant through the weekend.
