North Platte, NE – Drivers across parts of southwest and north-central Nebraska are urged to use caution today as Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for icy roads, freezing fog, and light snowfall.
According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 3 PM CST Saturday for Perkins, Lincoln, Chase, Hayes, and Frontier counties. The primary concern is freezing drizzle and freezing fog, which may create a glaze of ice on roads, bridges, and other elevated surfaces.
Communities impacted include North Platte, Grant, Imperial, Curtis, Wauneta, Champion, Maywood, Eustis, Enders, and Hayes Center. Forecasters warn that visibility may be reduced at times and untreated surfaces could become especially slick through the early afternoon hours.
In Boyd County, including Spencer, Butte, and Lynch, a separate Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST. Light snowfall of up to one inch is possible, which may still be enough to create slippery driving conditions, particularly on rural roads.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Pedestrians should also take caution on sidewalks, steps, and driveways, as icy surfaces increase the risk of falls and injury.
For the latest road conditions and travel updates, residents can call Nebraska 511 or check state transportation resources before heading out.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this afternoon as temperatures and weather conditions change.
