North Platte, Nebraska – Snow will continue stacking up east of Highway 83 through late Thursday night, with bursts topping 1 inch per hour creating rapidly deteriorating travel conditions before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory remain in effect until midnight CST/11 p.m. MST. The heaviest snowfall is focused east of Highway 83, where an additional 3 to 6 inches is expected, with locally higher totals possible under persistent bands. Areas west of Highway 83 will see lighter amounts, generally under 1 inch.

Communities including Broken Bow, Burwell, O’Neill and Valentine sit within the heavier snow axis. North Platte, Ogallala and Imperial may see lighter but still impactful accumulations. Snow rates near 1 inch per hour will reduce visibility and quickly cover highways, including U.S. 83 and Nebraska Highway 2.

Gusty north winds will cause blowing and drifting snow, especially in open rural areas, further lowering visibility. Drivers should delay non-essential travel and check Nebraska 511 before heading out.

Snow will taper late tonight, but drifting and slick roads may persist into early Friday morning before quieter conditions return this weekend.
