OMAHA, Neb. – A stretch of late-summer heat will grip eastern Nebraska through the weekend, with highs surging into the mid-90s by Saturday before storm chances return early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, Friday will climb to 92°F under mostly sunny skies, while Saturday pushes even hotter with highs near 96°F. South winds will bring added humidity, creating uncomfortable conditions across Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie counties. By Sunday night, a weak cold front is expected to trigger scattered thunderstorms, with the chance of storms continuing into midweek.
Travelers and residents should be cautious during peak afternoon hours, as pavement and vehicle interiors can quickly become hazardous in the heat. Hydration, limiting outdoor work, and checking on vulnerable neighbors remain priorities through Saturday.
Storms Sunday night into Wednesday could bring locally heavy rain and gusty winds, with the greatest impacts along the Missouri River valley, including Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Bellevue. Some storms may linger into Thursday, keeping conditions unsettled.
Hot weather will ease slightly by Monday, but storm chances persist into midweek. Additional advisories could be issued as timing becomes clearer.
