Nebraska – Wet roads and shifting temperatures will impact travel across the Cornhusker State through Feb 23-27 as a warm front pushes north and spreads rain statewide.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the central Plains are expected to trend near to slightly above seasonal averages during the Feb 23-27 period, while precipitation probabilities run above normal. As milder air advances from the south, precipitation will fall mainly as rain, particularly across eastern and central Nebraska.

Omaha and communities along I-80 may see steady rainfall that reduces visibility and creates ponding on low-lying roads during peak commute hours. Lincoln and Grand Island could experience periods of moderate rain as the front lifts north, leading to slower travel on major routes. Farther west, including North Platte and Scottsbluff, cooler air may linger at first, but conditions are expected to trend toward mainly rain as temperatures climb.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation may monitor drainage systems where runoff and melting snow combine. Drivers should slow down on wet pavement, increase following distance and avoid driving through standing water.

Additional updates may follow as the warmer, wetter pattern continues through Feb 23-27.
