Hastings, Neb. – Temperatures across Nebraska will continue to climb through Thursday, with some areas seeing heat index values close to 100 degrees by Thursday afternoon. Winds will also ramp up, making for breezy to windy conditions statewide.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, most of the 30-county region will remain dry through Thursday, though counties north of Interstate 80 could see a few showers or thunderstorms late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Any storms are expected to remain below severe limits, but brief gusty winds and lightning are possible.
Daytime highs Wednesday will reach the upper 80s to low 90s for most locations, with highs Thursday climbing into the mid- to upper 90s across southern Nebraska. Southerly winds will increase from 10–15 mph Wednesday to sustained speeds of 15–20 mph Thursday, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the heat of the day and secure loose outdoor items ahead of Thursday’s stronger winds.
Warm, breezy weather will persist into the weekend, with only isolated chances for showers in the north.
