HASTINGS, Neb. – A calm, cool morning greets south-central Nebraska, but a dramatic shift is on the way. After days of light winds and mid-40s lows, a stretch of unseasonable warmth will surge into the region Friday — only to be chased away by a quick-moving cold front early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, skies will clear through Friday morning, bringing abundant sunshine and a warm southwest breeze. Highs will climb near 76 degrees by afternoon — nearly 15 degrees above normal for mid-November. Friday evening remains quiet, with light winds and mild lows near 50.

Saturday will stay pleasant and dry, though clouds will increase late as winds turn northwest. Highs top out in the mid-60s before cooler air filters in from the Plains. Sunday remains mostly sunny and slightly cooler, with highs near 61, setting the stage for a sharper temperature drop on Monday. By early next week, daytime highs will tumble back into the 50s and 40s, with morning lows near freezing — a true taste of November’s back-and-forth mood.

Travelers along I-80 and U.S. 281 will enjoy excellent conditions for now, but the coming transition may bring breezier, cooler weather for early Thanksgiving planners. Residents should take advantage of the warm weekend for outdoor projects or late-season yard work before next week’s chill sets in.
