Hastings, Nebraska – Unseasonably warm weather will continue across central and south-central Nebraska through midweek, but a noticeable pattern change is on the way as cooler air and wintry precipitation return by the end of the week. While travel impacts remain limited for now, conditions could deteriorate heading into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain warm and breezy, with highs climbing into the upper 50s and lower 60s across much of the region. Southerly winds will stay active, especially Tuesday, helping maintain temperatures well above early January averages.
Changes arrive Thursday as a cold front approaches. Rain is expected to develop during the day, with a chance that precipitation mixes with or changes to snow overnight as temperatures begin to fall. Highs Thursday will still reach the upper 40s to lower 50s before cooling accelerates late in the day.
By Friday, colder air settles in with highs dropping into the upper 30s to near 40. Snow chances increase, and north winds gusting up to 25 mph could create colder, raw conditions. While no significant accumulation is guaranteed yet, slick spots could develop on untreated roads.
Drivers should enjoy the mild conditions early but prepare for changing weather late week. Additional updates and advisories may be issued as snow chances become clearer.
