OMAHA, Neb. – Drivers across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa could face slick roads and gusty winds late Monday into Tuesday. Thunderstorms may develop overnight, creating hazards for commuters and truckers along Interstate 80 and Highway 75.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, storm chances increase Monday night into early Tuesday with a 30–50% chance of rainfall. Some cells could bring hail and wind gusts over 25 mph, mainly after midnight. Localized ponding and reduced visibility may impact travel conditions during the Tuesday morning drive.

Communities including Omaha, Council Bluffs, Fremont, and Lincoln should prepare for periods of heavy rain and possible thunder through early Tuesday. Southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa hold the highest risk for disruptive storms. Motorists are advised to slow down on wet pavement and remain alert to sudden gusts, especially on bridges and open stretches of I-80.

By Tuesday afternoon, conditions improve as skies clear and highs reach the upper 70s. Sunshine dominates midweek, with warmer temperatures building into Thursday and Friday. A weaker system could return late Wednesday night, but impacts appear limited.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items tonight and check weather alerts before heading out early Tuesday. Emergency officials remind drivers to allow extra travel time if storms develop during the morning commute.

Thunderstorm chances fade after Tuesday, with more stable fall weather through the weekend.
