Hastings, Nebraska – Scattered thunderstorms could hammer south-central Nebraska Saturday afternoon, bringing flash flooding, dangerous wind gusts, and weekend disruption to cities like Hastings.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, there’s a Marginal Risk for a few stronger storms across the region by late Saturday. While most thunderstorms will stay below severe levels, isolated cells may strengthen enough to dump 1 to 3 inches of rain in a short time and whip up 60 mph gusts. Flooding in low-lying areas and on roadways like US-281 and US-6 is possible during periods of heavy downpour.

Saturday will start off mostly sunny with a high of 88°F, but weather could shift quickly by evening. Locals should remain alert for changing radar and avoid travel through flooded intersections. Any late-day outdoor events should have backup indoor plans in place.

Chances for rain and storms persist into Sunday night and Monday night, with the highest likelihood for more severe weather occurring late Sunday into early Monday. Uncertainty remains on timing and location, but localized downpours and lightning are again possible.

This stretch of active summer weather continues through midweek with low storm chances Monday through Tuesday. By Wednesday, the pattern shifts back to drier, warmer conditions.
