Nebraska’s south-central plains are waking up to damp pavement and low clouds, but a quick February warm-up is already underway. Light rain lingers early, and temperatures hover near 42 degrees in Hastings.

According to the National Weather Service, rain likely continues through mid-morning before tapering off. Highs climb to around 55 degrees today as northeast winds stay light. Wet roads along US-281 and Highway 6 could remain slick through late morning, so ease off the accelerator and allow extra braking distance.

Clouds thin tonight with lows near 33 degrees. With clearing skies and leftover moisture, a brief slick spot cannot be ruled out toward daybreak. This is the time of year when patchy refreeze can surprise drivers, especially on bridges.

Sunday turns notably warmer and brighter. Highs surge to 64 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds increase in the afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph. That mild trend continues into President’s Day Monday, with highs near 65 and partly sunny skies.

By Tuesday, sunshine dominates and temperatures jump to around 73 degrees. That is well above mid-February averages and offers an early taste of spring across south-central Nebraska. Cooler air tries to sneak back in midweek, with highs in the 60s Wednesday and a slight chance of rain returning late.

Long-range signals favor above-normal temperatures across much of the central U.S. over the next 6–10 days, with mild weather expanding into next week.

Monday (President’s Day): Partly sunny, high 65.
