Omaha, Nebraska – Drivers across eastern Nebraska should prepare for damaging winds and hail Tuesday night as strong storms develop along major highways. Travel along I-80 and I-29 could become hazardous after dark, with wind gusts up to 60 mph possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, scattered severe storms may continue until late Tuesday, September 16. Primary hazards include quarter-size hail, strong winds, and brief downpours. Storms may disrupt evening commutes and cause delays at Eppley Airfield.

Residents in Omaha, Council Bluffs, Fremont, and Lincoln should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel Tuesday evening. Local agencies recommend charging devices and keeping flashlights ready in case of power outages. Heavy rain may also trigger ponding on low-lying roads, especially in Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

While Monday remains mostly sunny with highs near 89, conditions turn more active Tuesday. Storms are expected late afternoon into Tuesday night, with rainfall totals near a half inch in some areas. By Wednesday, cooler air settles in, with highs in the low 80s and widespread showers likely.

The unsettled pattern continues into Thursday before drier conditions return Friday. Officials warn that additional watches or warnings may be issued if storms intensify.
