Falls City, Nebraska – Slick roads could develop across southeast Nebraska by late Sunday afternoon as light snow and freezing drizzle move into the region, setting up a potentially hazardous Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday for Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson counties. Forecasters expect up to one inch of snow Sunday, followed by freezing drizzle early Monday that could leave a light glaze of ice, with totals approaching five hundredths of an inch in some spots.
Communities including Falls City, Auburn, Pawnee City and Table Rock may see road conditions deteriorate Sunday evening as temperatures hover near freezing. Even minor ice accumulation can create slick spots on bridges, rural highways and untreated side streets.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and increase following distance. Motorists can check updated road conditions by calling 511 before heading out. Keep extra blankets and emergency supplies in your vehicle if travel is necessary overnight.
Precipitation should taper after sunrise Monday, but icy patches may linger into mid-morning. Additional advisories remain possible if freezing drizzle becomes more widespread.
