Hastings, NE – A volatile weather system is expected to impact much of central and eastern Nebraska late Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday, bringing a risk of severe thunderstorms across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the most dangerous period will be between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday. Storms may produce hail up to the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts reaching 60 mph. The greatest threat area includes cities such as Kearney, Hastings, Grand Island, and York, with a level 2 “Highest Local Risk” issued for severe conditions.
While the tornado threat remains low, the risk of localized flooding from heavy rainfall and wind-related damage is elevated. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, monitor weather alerts closely, and prepare for potential power outages due to strong winds.
These storm conditions are not unusual for early spring in Nebraska, but the intensity forecasted places additional strain on emergency services and road travel. Drivers should exercise caution during evening commutes and avoid flooded roadways.
