Omaha, NE – Severe thunderstorms are expected across eastern Nebraska Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning, with hail and damaging winds posing the greatest threat.
According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, the highest risk period spans from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Wednesday as storms move west to east across the region. The agency placed much of eastern Nebraska, including Omaha, Lincoln, and Norfolk, under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather. Areas further west remain under a lower risk designation.
Forecasters say there’s at least a 50% chance for severe storms to develop Tuesday evening, with scattered to numerous thunderstorms expected. The primary hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in southeastern portions of the state.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts and prepare for rapid changes in conditions. Outdoor plans should be adjusted, and vehicles should be parked under cover where possible. Power outages and minor property damage are possible.
This storm system marks an early start to the region’s spring severe weather season. Stay weather aware and ensure emergency alerts are enabled on mobile devices.
