Omaha, Nebraska – Severe thunderstorms are expected to push across northeast Nebraska starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, bringing damaging winds up to 70 mph, hail as large as 1 inch, and localized heavy rainfall into early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, the highest risk lies in northeastern counties such as O’Neill, Norfolk, and Albion, which are under a slight risk (Level 2 out of 5). A marginal risk extends south into Columbus, York, and Grand Island. The threat window spans from 7 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday.
Scattered evening storms could quickly intensify, especially near the Iowa border, where brief hail and damaging gusts are most likely. While tornadoes are not expected, localized flooding may occur where storms repeatedly pass over the same areas.
Residents in areas including Sioux City, Tekamah, and Wayne should secure outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages. If traveling overnight, be aware of possible road hazards from downed branches or ponding water.
This marks the beginning of a two-day severe threat, with another round of storms likely by Sunday evening. Additional warnings could be issued overnight.
