Omaha, NE – Storms hammering southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa Monday will linger into Tuesday, bringing flooding threats, hail, and powerful wind gusts.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, strong thunderstorms are expected throughout the day and evening, especially in the Omaha metro, Lincoln, and areas near Carter Lake. Winds could gust up to 29 mph, and rainfall between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch is likely. Expect another round of storms Tuesday afternoon, with a 50% chance of showers and isolated thunder by 4 p.m.

Drivers along I-80 and Highway 6 should stay alert. Ponding water and brief gusts may impact visibility and road traction. If you’re heading out Tuesday, pack rain gear and leave extra time for travel. Strongest storms may include small hail and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Monday night remains stormy, with thunderstorms after dark and wind speeds between 14 and 20 mph. Temperatures will dip into the low 50s. Tuesday will bring more rain, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., before clouds begin to clear.

Here’s the 5-day summer weather outlook:

  • Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, high of 62°F. Winds up to 21 mph.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, breezy with a high of 67°F.
  • Friday: Showers possible, high near 68°F.
  • Saturday: Slight storm risk, partly sunny, high near 70°F.
  • Sunday: Warmer and sunny with isolated storms, high around 70°F.

Spotters may still be needed tonight if severe conditions redevelop. Stay weather-aware as alerts may be extended into midweek.
