Hastings, NE – Central Nebraska residents should brace for a windy, wet start to the week as a cold front moves through the region Monday night, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings.
Forecasters say skies will stay cloudy tonight into Monday morning, with periods of patchy fog and light drizzle developing overnight. Temperatures will hold in the 40s, with light southeast winds between 5 and 15 mph.
A more organized band of rain showers is expected Monday evening into Monday night, bringing a 60% chance of precipitation before a sharp drop in temperatures. As the front pushes through, winds will turn out of the northwest and rapidly increase on Tuesday.
According to the NWS, gusts could reach up to 45 mph, especially in open areas, making for difficult travel for high-profile vehicles and possibly causing minor tree or power line impacts.
By Wednesday, conditions will clear and cool, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and lighter northerly winds. The pattern marks a shift toward more typical late-fall weather following a stretch of mild days.
Drivers should use caution Monday night through Tuesday due to reduced visibility in rain and fog, and secure loose outdoor items ahead of Tuesday’s strong winds.
