Hastings, Neb. – Quarter-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts could strike parts of south-central Nebraska late Sunday and again Monday evening as scattered strong to severe thunderstorms sweep across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a slight risk for severe storms exists through 2 a.m. Monday and again from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday night. Areas along and south of I-80, including Hastings, Kearney, Holdrege, and York, are most at risk for isolated storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall.
Storms Sunday evening will develop mainly after 5 p.m., with strongest activity expected during the overnight hours. Monday’s threat shifts slightly eastward but remains elevated for southeast Nebraska, especially in zones highlighted as level 2 (“Slight Risk”) by the Storm Prediction Center.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid travel during periods of heavy rain or strong winds. Power outages and minor flooding may occur in some locations.
Storm coverage will remain scattered rather than widespread, but further updates or warnings may be issued if conditions intensify.
