Hastings, NE – Residents in south-central and southeastern Nebraska should prepare for possible severe weather this afternoon, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings issues a marginal risk for storms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
According to the NWS, the greatest threat will develop after 4 p.m. Sunday, impacting areas including Hebron, Superior, Franklin, and Concordia. While the tornado potential remains very low, forecasters caution that hail-producing storms could quickly intensify, creating localized hazards for drivers and outdoor events.
Meteorologists say the storms could also bring 1 to 2 inches of rainfall in isolated areas, potentially leading to minor flooding in low-lying spots. The SPC Day 1 Outlook highlights the region under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk, meaning most storms will be isolated but a few may reach severe limits.
Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts, secure outdoor items, and move vehicles to covered areas to protect against hail damage.
