OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska will see a modest shift toward milder conditions heading into Valentine’s Day weekend, with temperatures rising above recent lows while a mix of rain and snow remains possible through Feb. 20.

Daytime highs on Friday and Saturday are expected to reach the low to mid-30s across eastern Nebraska, including the Omaha and Lincoln areas, while western portions of the state remain slightly cooler. These temperatures hover near or just above freezing, increasing the potential for mixed precipitation during passing systems. Overnight lows are forecast to dip into the teens and 20s, allowing for refreezing and the potential for slick road conditions.

A series of weak disturbances moving through the central Plains may bring intermittent chances for light snow, rain, or a rain-snow mix, particularly from Valentine’s Day through early next week. While widespread heavy precipitation is not anticipated, even light amounts could create localized travel issues, especially during the overnight and early morning hours.

Winds may become gusty at times, particularly across open and rural areas, contributing to reduced visibility where snow is falling and increasing wind chill concerns during colder periods.

By midweek, temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal norms, with highs generally holding in the 30s and lows remaining below freezing. This pattern suggests a continuation of winter conditions rather than a sustained warmup.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of forecast updates, as small temperature fluctuations could determine whether precipitation falls as rain or snow and impact travel conditions during the Valentine’s Day period.
