Hastings, NE – Residents across central Nebraska woke up Wednesday to light rain showers and a few rumbles of thunder, but forecasters say the unsettled start will give way to sunny skies and warm temperatures by afternoon.

According to the US National Weather Service in Hastings, rainfall totals will remain light, with most areas seeing less than one-tenth of an inch. Highs will reach between 81 and 86 degrees, accompanied by south winds of 15 to 20 mph, gusting up to 25 mph.

On Thursday, conditions are expected to be sunny with highs in the upper 80s, while Friday will bring breezy weather and temperatures climbing into the low 90s. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph by the end of the week.

Well above normal temperatures are forecast through at least Saturday. A shift to more seasonal weather is expected early next week, with October bringing cooler, fall-like conditions.

Meteorologists emphasize that today’s thunderstorms are not expected to be severe. Still, drivers heading out in the morning may encounter wet roads and should allow extra travel time.
