Hastings, NE – Snow showers and gusty winds will create hazardous travel conditions today and into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Residents can expect a 20% chance of snow this afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph by late evening.

The heaviest snow activity is forecast between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. today, with the potential for brief heavy bursts that may reduce visibility to near zero. Accumulation will remain light, generally under half an inch, but blowing snow may cause slick spots, especially on major roadways like Highway 6.

Thursday will bring colder air, with a high of 27°F and morning wind chills dipping into the single digits. Gusty winds will persist, keeping conditions uncomfortable despite partly sunny skies. Overnight lows will fall to 11°F, with winds calming slightly after sunset.

The extended forecast shows sunny skies returning on Friday with a high near 43°F, offering some reprieve from the bitter cold. However, temperatures are expected to drop again over the weekend, with highs in the low 30s on Saturday and Sunday.

Drivers should plan extra time for commutes today and monitor updated road conditions. The National Weather Service advises caution when traveling, especially in areas where visibility may be reduced by blowing snow. Residents are urged to dress warmly and secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty conditions.
