Hastings, NE – The National Weather Service in Hastings is warning residents across central and southern Nebraska to prepare for a mix of frost, fire risk, and gusty winds as fall weather turns active through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy to widespread frost developed early Sunday, October 19, under a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory. Temperatures will quickly rebound this afternoon, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s. However, southwesterly winds gusting up to 25 mph and low humidity will lead to elevated fire danger through the day.
A cold front is expected to move through the area Monday, shifting winds to the northwest and increasing gusts up to 40 mph. Highs will remain in the low 60s to low 70s, but the combination of gusty winds and dry air will again elevate the risk of fire spread.
Cooler, breezy conditions will settle in by Tuesday, with highs dipping into the upper 50s and mid-60s. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are likely, especially northeast of the Tri-Cities region.
Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning and secure loose items ahead of stronger winds.
