Hastings, NE – Nebraska residents are urged to drive cautiously as dense fog continues to blanket parts of the state on Christmas Eve morning. The National Weather Service in Hastings issued an extended Dense Fog Advisory, which is expected to last until midday.
The fog is most severe along Highways 281 and 81, where visibility remains low. According to the NWS, visibility is gradually improving in areas like Buffalo and Kearney Counties, which have been removed from the advisory. Conditions are expected to clear between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Officials warn that freezing temperatures may create additional hazards. Icy road conditions are likely, especially on untreated surfaces, and drivers should use extreme caution. The fog is forecasted to return tonight, potentially impacting Christmas Eve travel plans.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and plan extra time for commutes. Stay alert for sudden visibility changes and slick roads.
