NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Drivers across central and western Nebraska should prepare for dangerous visibility tonight as dense fog moves in, reducing sightlines to under a quarter mile through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, the Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, affecting counties including Garden, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Blaine, Loup, Garfield, and Custer. The fog is expected to develop quickly after sunset, with the heaviest pockets in valleys and along highways such as U.S. 83 and U.S. 2.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra space between vehicles. The NWS warns that travel conditions may be particularly hazardous during the morning commute, especially near North Platte, Broken Bow, and Ogallala.
Low visibility could persist into late morning before conditions gradually improve as winds shift and temperatures rise. Officials advise staying alert for potential extensions or additional advisories if fog lingers into midday Wednesday.
