Hastings, Nebraska – Patchy fog is reducing visibility across south-central Nebraska this morning, with conditions especially hazardous near Hastings and surrounding towns. Drivers could face near-zero visibility on local roads until 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Hall, and Hamilton counties. Visibility may fall below a quarter mile in spots, particularly along rural highways and low-lying areas.

The fog will lift by late morning, but a dangerous heat wave is on deck. An Extreme Heat Watch begins Sunday afternoon and stretches through 8 p.m. Monday. Heat index values could climb to 106°F, driven by highs in the upper 90s and rising humidity.

Cities including Grand Island, York, and Hastings will experience the worst of the heat. Outdoor work should be limited during peak afternoon hours, and residents are urged to stay hydrated, seek air-conditioned spaces, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Air quality may also suffer due to stagnant conditions and increased ground-level ozone.

More advisories may follow as heat builds early next week. Stay alert for further updates from the National Weather Service.
