Broken Bow, NE – A High Wind Warning remains in effect through early Wednesday morning across much of central and north-central Nebraska, where gusts up to 60 mph are creating hazardous driving conditions, according to the National Weather Service in North Platte.
The warning includes Cherry, Holt, Boyd, Custer, and Garfield Counties, as well as surrounding areas such as Broken Bow, Valentine, O’Neill, Burwell, and Thedford. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts near 60 mph, are expected to persist until 6 a.m. CST.
Forecasters warn that travel may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, trailers, and RVs. Crosswinds on open highways—including Highway 83 and U.S. 20—could make steering challenging and increase the risk of rollovers.
The strong winds are part of a powerful cold front sweeping through the Plains, which could also cause minor property damage and blowing debris in exposed areas. Motorists are urged to delay travel if possible, use extreme caution, and remain alert for sudden gusts.
